After reading all the reviews, we decided that we wanted a Dyson vaccum. Problem is, we couldn't decide between the DC 14 (Upright) or the DC 23 (Turbine head, Canister). After comparisions and a visit to the store, we finally decided to go with the DC 23, and have been very satisfied with the purchase. We love the fact that it is lightweight, and the brush bar reaches under our computer hutch, cabinets and beds. The wand and brush bar is easily manueverable, and I did not tire as quickly as with our previous upright. While we were concerned that the (dust)bin capacity is less than the DC 14, filling it too quickly wasn't a problem, since we have hardwood floors, few rugs and no pets. This little machine might be smaller, and lighter, but it sucked up a lot of dust we didn't realize we had. It picked up a lot of stuff!! We also learned that with a pull of a red button on the side of the brush bar, the turbine brush head will turn with air suction,to be used with carpets/rugs. You can switch that off with hardwood floors, stopping the turbine brush head. Emptying the canister was also a piece of cake. Putting the entire vaccum together, right out of the box was quite easy. Yes, storing it was a little tricky, but it is a small price to pay for its performance. To top it all off, we bought our DC 23 vaccum on sale for $350 including tax. All in all, we are impressed and satisfied with our DC 23 purchase, so far it has done what we wanted it to do and more.

I've owned a Dyson DC23 Turbinehead for about 6 months now and this thing Rocks!! This is without a doubt the Best CANISTER Vacuum I've ever used/owned in my life and I've owned a lot of them including several Orecks, Dirt Devils, Hoovers, The old Rainbow Vac with the water in the canister, etc. This Dyson DC23 Beats them all and works great!!



The suction from this Dyson DC23 is AMAZING. It's Super Strong and more powerful than ANY OTHER Vacuum I've ever used including Shop Vacs and Professional Canister Vacuums. I use to work at a hotel and we had this Oreck Backpack commercial model used for cleaning the hotel lobby, this Dyson DC23 is every bit as powerful as that Oreck Commercial vacuum and it never looses this suction. The Suction stays consistently powerful throughout your cleaning job.



The DC23 comes with 3 attachments that are really nicely designed and stow away in the unit itself. You just pull them out and they CLICK into place. I really like the way everything on this Dyson LOCKS into place with a click letting you know it's really in there and will not come loose during your cleaning. The Attachments are a Crevice tool, a Upholstery brush and a Dusting Brush. The Dusting Brush is especially nice and has nice SOFT Bristles rather than stiff and they will not scratch delicate surfaces. This is my favorite tool and it can be used to clean a laptop computer or your car interior better than anything I have ever used before. The soft bristles get every little fiber of dust out and the crazy powerful suctions just sucks the dust and dirt right up. I used this brush on my laptop keyboard and it really pulled a ton of dust, dirt, hair, etc out of my keyboard! The other attachment I love is the upholstery brush which is the perfect tool for car carpets and seats. The crevice tool is nice but nothing special, it works fine.



The absolute BEST thing however about the Dyson DC23 is the fact that it of course DOES NOT USE BAGS!! The canister fills up really fast but all you have to do is pop it off, empty it and your back in business. You'll notice right away how much money your saving by using this if you keep track of each time you empty the canister and think to yourself, Hey, I just SAVED a bag by using this Dyson!! Just image spending say $1.50 per bag for a regular canister vacuum and you'll soon realize this Dyson is easily paying for itself in no time.



The Dyson also does not use Belts, something my old Dirt Devil went through a lot of and they cost about $5.00 each. All it took was for something to get caught in my Dirt Devil ONE TIME and the belt would overheat and break, there went ANOTHER $5.00 out the window... Not with the Dyson, there is NOTHING to wear out or Break. If something gets caught in floor head brush it's AIR DRIVEN!! SO it just stops, you pull the thing out and keep on going.



I will also mention that the floor bristle tool works very well and is easy to disassemble and clean. I did notice that the brush started to seem as if it was not turning as fast as it did when the vac was new. The Cure for this problem is to take the brush apart and LUBRICATE the spindles that the brushes connect to. Then Lubricate the edges of the brush where they are in close contact with the edges of the brush housing. When the brushes rub against this housing it causes friction and slows them down. After I put a little Petroleum Jelly on the sides of the brushes themselves and the brush housing they now turn FAST and STRONG like Brand New again!!



This Dyson DC23 is a really great design and I can see why the Dyson guy had trouble getting it into the market place. This vacuum is built to SAVE the Consumer money... Every other vacuum on the market is built to Make the Vacuum Clean Company MONEY in the form of Bags, Belts, etc. Dyson built it right and he built it to LAST! This is one item that is truly made for the Consumers benefit rather than the bottom line of some greedy company that is just producing crap that will break in 2 years time so you'll have to buy a new one.

I looked for 6 months for a light weight, powerful canister vacuum that didn't loose suction or have a bag to change and I was really happy when I found this Dyson canister vac. I've had it for about a month now, and I'm still happy with it - for the most part. I would highly recommend it for anyone who has mostly hard surface floors, such as tile or hardwoods. The turbinehead technology makes for a very light weight vacuum, and it works fine on area rugs, but it fails on wall-to-wall carpet. Sometimes the turbine head stops spinning (if there carpet threads are long, such as the bathroom rug), but at the very least I feel that it fails to beat out the dirt from the carpeted bedrooms. Its fantastic in our tiled living/dining room and kitchen though, and for that I really like it.
